Internship: K-12 Nutrition Project

Remote/home office position based out of Southern California

The Internship Opportunity

We are looking for a talented intern with a passion for children’s nutrition, project coordination experience, and a logical/analytical mind. Ideal candidates will love talking about good food and sustainable organic agriculture, cheese and dairy. We have received funding from the USDA under their Local Food Program which focuses on building resilient local food systems. The scope of that program is to design processes, product and education that will enable school districts to buy California organic cheese as part of their food program. You would be a vital part of gathering and analyzing information for a readiness assessment project and following up/interacting with targeted, receptive California school K-12 districts and nonprofit partners.

Responsibilities/Activities

•       Help with program needs assessment, ongoing interaction and follow up, regarding K-12 School District Nutrition with targeted California School Districts.

•     Develop, distribute and conduct educational materials and sessions tailored for K-12 audience

•       General project coordination, communication, outreach, and potential day trips to school districts

•       Compile, analyze and share assessment data and findings

•       Ability to keep a regular schedule, with daily work and collaboration on project goals and deliverables

•       Assist with additional research projects as needed

•       Identify and document contacts, ideas, recommendations and next steps to advance project -- specific avenues, partners and people to implement recommendations.

•       Share and present recommendations during and at end of internship

Qualifications

•       Pursuing an undergraduate degree in a related field (Food Science, Nutrition, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems, Dairy Science, Agribusiness or similar)

•       Analytical skills: organizing data and reporting in MS Excel. Data visualization with Power BI a plus

•       Experience with designing and/or conducting surveys (or similar information gathering) a plus

•       Highly collaborative; comfortable reaching out and engaging people at school districts, multiple levels in the company and with our partners to collect information and get your questions answered.

•       Self-motivated and independent, needing minimal supervision to be successful, with the ability to pick up the ball and run with it.

•       Passionate about having a positive impact on the environment, sharing a commitment to our company’s Vision, Mission and Shared Values

•       Demonstrated project coordination/ project leadership experience

•       Ability to work remotely (highly effectively) and travel within California as needed.
