Rumiano Cheese Company 2013 Year in Review

Happy New Year!

As we move into a brand new year, it's always nice to reflect on where we've been.
The year 2013 was an inspiring year for Rumiano Cheese Co. We produced more organic cheese than ever before, won several awards, and our online community grew to over 20,000 people! Overall, 2013 was a year of growth and expansion for us and much of that is thanks to you, our supporters, fans and cheese lovers alike.

Natural Products Expo West in Anahiem
We kicked off the year in March 2013 at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California; where attendees from around the world come to find the next "big thing" in the natural food market. We made two announcements at Expo West: one was the launch of our Rumiano Family Naturals brand, a conventional grass-fed cheese made in our Crescent City factory. Our colleagues and friends from Source Organic Whey Protein joined us in our booth. They're using our dried Whey Protein Concentrate 80% to make the only Non-GMO Verified Whey Protein Powder on the market.

Farewell to a long time cheese-maker and friend: Alfred Mathys
In 2013, we also said goodbye to our cheese-maker of 30 years, Alfred Mathys. Hired by Raymond and George Rumiano (2nd generation owners) in the 70s, he became an integral part of the Rumiano Cheese Company. Originally from Switzerland, Alfred went to cheese-making school in his late teens to his mid twenties and moved to the United States. 30 years later, he helped Rumiano Cheese Company make over 12 million pounds per year. May retirement treat you well Alfred!

We expanded our internet reach further than before!
This was a very important year for our social networking outlets, blog and giveaways, too. October marked off the Big Cheese Sweepstakes which spread the word of the Non-GMO and importance of Rumiano Cheese across the net, and a lucky winner won 52 pieces of Rumiano Family Organic cheese. The Holiday Recipe Contest was another drawing that rewarded one chef a gift basket full of Northern California goods, along with some RFO!

Our biggest addition to the Rumiano Cheese Blog was the "Masters of Cheese" video series in which we broke down the Willows factory operations. Being the first video series we'd produced, it was a great learning experience and hope to continue with the MoC series sometime next year.

Rumiano Cheese became World Cheese Award winners!
Last, but definitely not least, were the awards the Rumiano Cheese Team earned last year. Throughout 2013, our cheese was entered in contests around the world. We received several bronze, silver and gold awards. Of all the competitions Rumiano Cheese entered, the most stand-out award was a gold medal in Hard Pressed Cheese at the 2013 World Cheese Awards in the UK. A lifelong goal for many and an absolutely amazing feat for the entire Rumiano Cheese Company.

2013 was an inspiring year for us here at the Rumiano Cheese Company, and we can't wait to see what 2014 will bring. Happy New Year!
