2015: Apple Bacon Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 6 bacon strips
  • 3 chopped apples
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded smoked Gouda
  • 8 oz. cooked shell macaroni

Directions

Cook bacon, crumble, and set aside. Discard bacon drippings, reserving 1 tablespoon. In remaining bacon drippings add chopped apples and onion, and cook 5 minutes. In another skilled melt butter, stir in flour and pepper. Add milk, cook until thickened. Stir in cheeses until melted. Add macaroni, apples, and half of the bacon. Transfer to a baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, top with remaining bacon.
