How to Keep Educated and Up To Date During Non-GMO Month
Non-GMO Month continues! Rumiano Cheese Company want's to help spread the Non-GMO word by sharing references with our readers. The internet is full of information and we've gathered a few useful resources for learning about GMOs.
Start with the basics
Visit the Non-GMO Project website:
The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building sources for non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices.
Visit our Resources page for a list of more organizations in the industry.
The Future of Food -- One of the best ways to learn about GMO's is by watching documentary films. One that we highly recommend is The Future of Food. The film was originally released in 2004 and it is still shown around the world. It has been instrumental in the Non-GMO movement.
In addition to The Future of Food, we encourage you to check out the list we have created on our Resources page and share them with your friends and family.
Seeds of Deception -- This book is written by internationally recognized best selling author Jeffrey Smith who has also become the spokesperson for the Non-GMO movement. In his first book, Seeds of Deception, Smith discusses the role politics has played in the GMO movement as well as the health implications on society. He has written additional books on this topic which you can find listed on our Resource Page along with other authors on the topic.
When you're done getting schooled on GMO basics, you can head over to our Action Guide to find out ways you can participate in Non-GMO Month.
The list of Non-GMO Project brands and products in this guide is searchable by product type, brand name, product name, and keyword. In addition, you can use it to find supporting retailers in your area who can help you with your Non-GMO shopping. The guide also includes tips for avoiding GMOs, including a list of GMO crops and common ingredients at risk for GMO contamination.
Vote YES on Prop 37 - Right To Know:
California's Proposition 37 would be the beginning of a new era for the USA. Prop 37 proposes that all food containing GMO's be labeled so. This would give the consumer the right to know allowing them to make informed decisions when shopping. It has been speculated that the passage of Prop 37 would move more companies in the direction of sourcing Non-GMO ingredients. This would in turn create a demand for more Non-GMO ingredient supply production across the country continuing to drive costs down.
Join the Just Label It Campaign:
Over one million people have contacted the FDA and told them we have a right to know what's in our food. Become part of this growing movement and join them today. Sign the petition to the FDA and make sure your voice is heard!
Contact Your Elected officials:
Tell them how you feel. Our elected officials are waiting to hear from you. If we let them know that Non-GMO food safety is an important issue, we can start to make change on an even broader level.
